Life Without Barriers and the Transfer of NSW Government Disability Services
Life Without Barriers is one of Australia’s largest providers of social services working in over 300 communities across the country. We support people with disability of all ages and have extensive experience in providing supports for people with complex needs. Our heritage and legacy are founded in finding ways to support people with disability to make choices about their own needs and help them thrive in the life they want to live.
Life Without Barriers is proud to be the new provider of supported accommodation, respite and in-home support services in the Central Coast, Nepean Blue Mountains, and South Eastern Sydney regions from 22 February 2018. LWB will be the Supported Independent Living (SIL) provider in these regions.
LWB was awarded the opportunity to manage services in these regions resulting from the NSW Government transfer of Disability Services. We are excited to be working with people in these regions and their families and carers. We are also looking forward to welcoming staff transferring from the Department of Family and Community Services (FACS) to our organisation. You can read more about the transfer of services by going to the NSW NDIS website delivered by FACS here.
To support the running of shared living services across these regions, we have partnered with two Specialist Disability Accommodation Providers, (SDA), Hume Community Housing Association and Housing Choices New South Wales.
In addition to the shared living homes, Life Without Barriers will be responsible for managing the nine respite homes across the three areas. Housing Choices New South Wales will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of properties in services located in the South East Sydney Region. The Housing Choices Australia Group is one of Australia’s largest Community Housing Providers and has over 23 years’ experience providing safe and secure housing for people with a disability. Hume Community Housing Association will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of properties in Nepean Blue Mountains and Central Coast. As a fully registered Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA) provider, Hume empowers people to have a determining voice in their own tenancy-related decisions. This approach strongly aligns with the intent and objectives of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in relation to self-determined and person-led service delivery.
